October 7, 2012
The Post-Journal

The Jamestown High School College and Career Center recently held its annual College Consortium.

Juniors and seniors had an opportunity to visit with admissions representatives from 16 local colleges: Alfred State College, Alfred University, Buffalo State College, Canisius College, Daemen College, D'Youville College, Fredonia State College, Genesee Community College, Hilbert College, Medaille College, Niagara County Community College, Niagara University, St. Bonaventure University, Trocaire College, University at Buffalo and Villa Maria College.

"I didn't know that there were so many colleges right in our area," said Rachel Olebracht, a JHS student. "I talked to University of Buffalo about engineering but I am also interested in Penn State Behrend."

The college consortium is just one event held by the College & Career Center including other college visits, scholarship opportunities, testing information and prep, college research on-line and books, to name just a few ways the College & Career Center can help students prepare for life after graduation.

"It helps to have somewhere to come to find out important information," said Dustin George, a Jamestown High School senior who is interested in pursuing electrical engineering technology. "I recently toured Alfred University and am also looking at SUNY schools."
