WESTFIELD - Daniel R. Sanderson, age 69, of Elm Street, Westfield, died Wednesday morning, Oct. 3, 2012, at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio, following a courageous four-year battle with cancer.
Dan was born on Oct. 17, 1942, in Westfield, N.Y., a son of the late Russell and Conchetta (Sarah) Condello Sanderson.
Dan, also known as "Carbon" or "Carb" by his long-time high school friends, was a lifelong Westfield resident and a graduate of Westfield Academy and Central School. He had been employed in the offices of the former Ajax Flexible Couplings, the former LaPorte Chevrolet, the former Pagano's Plumbing, and Westfield Homes. He had also been an associate with the MASON Funeral Home. Active in his community, Dan was a former member of the fire department of Westfield Cascade Hose Company and was a current member of the Firemen's Exempt Association and the Loyal Order of Moose 118. He enjoyed golf and played in the retirees' travel golf league. Dan was an accomplished bowler having rolled a 300 game and a 700 series, and was a member of the PBA. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR. Dan was a devoted member of the Lakeshore Assembly of God, where he was active in many church activities and served as a Deacon.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Lois (Wood) Sanderson; and his three daughters: Dawn (Kevin) Okerlund of West-field, N.Y., Denise (Brian) Hartley of Mooresville, N.C., and Danielle (Corey) DeHaven of Raleigh, N.C.. Dan is the proud grandfather of 13 grandchildren, of which Alicia is more like a daughter. He is further survived by his two sisters: Martha Kelley and Edith S. Brewer; as well as his brother, James Sanderson.
Besides his parents, Dan was preceded in death by his son, Daryl Sanderson, in 1970.
Friends may call on Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the MASON Funeral Home, 37 Clinton St., Westfield, N.Y.
His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 8, 2012, at the Lakeshore Assembly of God, 252 E. Main St., Westfield, N.Y. with the Rev. Vincent Sanzo officiating.
Dan's family will be present at the church to receive friends and family for one hour prior to his service. Burial will be in Westfield Cemetery.
