The Chautauqua County Vegetarian-Vegan Society will hold two meetings in October.
The first meeting will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Westfield YWCA, 58 S. Portage St., Westfield. Bill Kuwik will speak on "Diet and Lifestyle for Powerful Immunity." Kuwik is a licensed massage therapist and operates a small organic farm outside Fredonia. He will talk about various food groups that build immunity, the benefits of medicinal mushrooms, the differences between organic and conventional produce, as well as environmental and other factors that influence immunity.
The menu for the Westfield dinner will be healthy potluck. Those coming are invited, but not required, to bring a nutritious dish to share which will serve between eight and 12 people, as well as the recipe. The meals should be vegan, with no meat, eggs, milk, butter or other dairy products used, and should be organic if possible. The cost is $6 or free for those bringing a dish to share. There will be another meeting in Jamestown at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 1255 Prendergast Ave., Jamestown. Anne Watkins and Nikole Knoblech, society coordinators, will present "Vegetarian 101" focusing on basic questions about how to eat a healthy diet without meat and dairy products, how to get enough protein, where to get necessary vitamins and other topics.

All meetings are open to the public. Those attending do not need to be vegan or vegetarian to attend a meeting. Meetings are open to anyone who is interested in learning about healthy eating and living. The Vegetarian Society is an information and support group for individuals seeking to explore healthy eating through vegetarian, vegan or raw food lifestyles.
