To The Readers' Forum:
We have had such a beautiful summer, with the weather looking great going into the fall season as well. I encourage all to take advantage of this while we can and walk, run, bike, roller blade, canoe, kayak, hike, golf and enjoy every other outdoor sport I may have omitted.
However, while you are doing this pleasebe courteous and follow the rules of your sport. Bikes do not below on the sidewalk!
This morning while I was out walking my dog in front of Fletcher School, my dog and I were forced to step aside on the apron and let a 30- to 40-year-old man whiz by us in the middle of the sidewalk. A man with no helmet, also, by the way. Certainly a man who should have known better.
He had an opportunity to easily and smoothly get off the sidewalk and on the road and did not, I may add.
Bike riders need to be wearing a helmet and they should ride with traffic on the right side of the road.
Of course, I can certainly understand and forgive a child with her parent gingerly riding a bike with training wheels on the sidewalk. That's just common sense.
But everyone else, please think about the rules of the road and be courteous.
Have a safe and enjoyable autumn outside in beautiful Western New York!
