The Post-Journal

The Jamestown Veterans of Modern Warfare Chapter 20 will be hosting a chicken barbecue starting at noon Saturday at Sam Conti's Auto Repair, 671 Route 394, Kennedy, as part of a free community car show and business grand opening.

The barbecue will be held regardless of weather. The barbecue will start at noon and continue until gone. Dinners include a half chicken, choice of two sides including baked beans, macaroni or potato salad, and a roll for $9. Beverages will also be available for $1. All proceeds benefit the Veterans of Modern Warfare Chapter 20, co-located with the Vietnam Veterans of America 865 at 41 Bigelow Ave., Jamestown.

The mission of the VMW is to recruit and inform local veterans of benefits, and maintain the integrity that no veteran is left behind or forgotten. They continuously conduct various fundraisers to raise money for veterans in need, families of veterans in need, care packages to service members and make donations to community foundations. On a regular basis they conduct flag ceremonies, participate in parades, military funerals as requested, benefits for veterans and veterans families in need, all in conjunction with the VVA.

"We are a veterans' organization who is dedicated to assisting all veterans past, present, and future in any matter which may come our way," said Joe Paladino, president. "Whether someone needs directions to services, an ear to talk to, or just to see brothers and sisters with a common bond, we are here for them."

Additional organization events include a military salute and posting of colors to kick off a benefit for a local wounded veteran on Oct. 27, located at On the Hills, a local business in Gerry, courtesy of Linda Sweda, owner.

On Nov. 10, VMW will host the third annual Veterans Day Bash, 41 Bigelow Ave., Jamestown. Enjoy a pig roast dinner for $5 each, a Chinese auction and live entertainment. Children age 10 and under will be admitted free. All-non members must sign in. Proceeds benefit the Support the Troops Care Package program and the VMW.

From Dec. 1-24, or until sold out, the VMW will be selling Christmas trees at Harley Davidson of Jamestown located on Route 394 in Falconer. Proceeds also benefit the VMW, VVA and the Support the Troops Care Package Program.
