MAYVILLE - It was a big day for Chautauqua Lake's Courtney Hughes as she scored both goals in the Lady Thunderbirds' 2-1 victory over West Valley in Division 3 girls soccer on Monday.
Hughes' first goal was unassisted and came just 10 minutes into the game and at the 38-minute mark, she netted her second of the game to put Chautauqua Lake up 2-0.
West Valley finally got on the board 20 minutes into the second half as Brooke Smith scored off an assist by Rachel Zimmer, but the Lady Thunderbirds' defense kept things in check the rest of the way.
Rachel Fortney picked up the win in net with nine saves for Chautauqua Lake (2-1).
Ashley Blackman collected eight saves in the losing effort for West Valley.
