OLEAN - The fifth public forum on Cattaraugus County's Comprehensive Plan will be at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Cutco Theatre at Jamestown Community College, 260 N. Union St., Olean.
The topic of this forum will be arts and culture.
Cattaraugus County has an energetic arts and culture scene ranging from paintings, sculptures, pottery, Native American beadwork, basketry, jewelry, stained glass, woodcarvings and more. There are many groups that promotes the arts such as: the Cattaraugus County Arts Council; the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts; the Olean Community Theatre and Olean Theatre Workshop; Portville's Keynote Chorus and the Chamber Music Society of Olean as well as the Southern Tier Symphony and many more arts related festivals and activities.
The county is seeking the public's input to the planning process that will develop a new comprehensive plan and vision of the future. The plan's purpose is to provide a blueprint for the future growth and development of the county in the areas of economic development, agriculture, the environment and natural resources, transportation and infrastructure, arts and culture and land use. Through this process, the county seeks to establish clear goals and achievable objectives that will lead the county to become the best living environment for county residents.
Anyone interested in continuing the promotion of arts and culture for the future is asked to attend Thursday's meeting.
There will be one more public forum at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, focusing on land use. Light refreshments will be served.
