The Mahoning Valley Scrappers scored two runs in the top of the first inning and the Jamestown Jammers responded with 10 unanswered runs for a 10-2 New York-Penn League victory on Sunday afternoon at Diethrick Park.
Mahoning Valley scored in the first when Joseph Wendle was hit by a pitch with two outs and Dorssys Paulino homered to left field for a 2-0 lead.
The Jammers cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the first
Yefri Perez led off with a single and stole second. After Cody Keefer walked, Jesus Solorzano grounded into a force out and Perez moved to third and scored on a groundout by Viosergy Rosa.
Jamestown took the lead with three runs in the second inning.
Michael Main singled with one out, Yeison Hernandez was hit by pitch and Juancito Martinez reached on an error to load the bases. Main and Hernandez scored on two-out wild pitches and Martinez scored the third run on a single by Keefer.
The Jammers extended their lead to 6-2 in third with two more runs.
With one out, Main singled and moved to third on a single by Hernandez. Martinez followed with a third straight single to drive in Main and Yeison Hernandez was next with another single to bring home Hernandez.
Jamestown put the game away with three more runs in the fourth for a 9-2 lead.
Viosergy Rosa opened the inning with a single and went to second when Matt Juengel reached base on an error. Then Sharif Othman singled to load the bases. Main lined out to third baseman Jorge Martinez, but then he made a throwing error and Rosa and Juengel scored. Othman came home when Hernandez followed with a doubles.
The Jammers scored a 10th run in the eighth when Othman walked with two outs and scored on a triple by Main.
Main finished with three hits while Othman and Hernandez had two apiece.
Helpi Reyes was the winning picher as he and relievers Brian ellington and Jose Rodriguez each allowed only one hit each.
The teams play again today at 1:05 p.m. at Diethrick Park.
