Joan Elaine Gerring Warriner, 78, of Mechanicsville, Va., passed away Aug. 30, 2012.
She was preceded in death by her father, Ralph Butler Gerring; and her loving grandmother, M. Pearl Upton Gerring Zuide-ma of Dewittville, N.Y.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Jos-peh Bernard Warriner; son, Mark David Warriner of Richmond; daughter and son-in-law, Julie Anne and Andrew Hale Herrick and their children: John Chris-tian and Elizabeth Anne of Palmyra, Va.; her stepmoth-er, Juanita Storm Gerring; and her half-brother, Michael Gerring of Dewitt-ville, N.Y.

Joan ''JoAnne'' was born Aug. 5, 1934, in Westfield, N.Y. She graduated from Fredonia High School, Fredonia, N.Y., and earned a Bachelor of Science from Cornell University, Ithaca, N.Y. She completed a year's internship in the U.S. Public Health Care Service and then worked for the New York State Extension Service in the counties of Tompkins, Wayne and Chautauqua. She married Joseph Bernard Warriner and moved to Mechanics-ville in 1965. She enjoyed being a homemaker and was a wonderfully creative mother while raising her children. She was especial-ly talented sewing clothes, preparing nutritious meals and making learning fun. She was a lifelong advocate and champion of consu-mers rights. She also throughly enjoyed raising Miniature Schnauzers (Al-bert, Bucky and Sparky). She was a member of Han-over Friends Evangelical Church. A funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. on Sa-turday, Sept. 1, 2012, at the Mechanicsville Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Road. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the ser-vice. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, at the Bemus Point Cemetery in Bemus Point, N.Y.
