Sonja M. Pearson

Sonja M. Pearson, 70, of 2109 Southwestern Drive Lakewood, N.Y., formerly of 413 Chautauqua Ave., Jamestown, N.Y., passed away at 12:15 a.m. Thurs-day (Aug. 17, 2012), in WCA Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer.

A lifelong area resident, she was born Sept. 21, 1941, in Jamestown, N.Y., a daughter of the late John Allan and Marie E. Nyberg Pearson.

She was a 1959 graduate of Jamestown High School.

In earlier years she had worked for the former State-side Motors for 26 years and following its closing worked as a pharmacy tech for Eckerd Drug Store and Rite Aid Drug Store for 19 years. For the past 16 years she had been employed at the Lakewood Mobile Mart on Fairmount Avenue.

She was a member of the First Covenant Church and served her Lord by volunteering her time at the food pantry. She was also a member of the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club Auxiliary and the Viking Lodge.

She will be remembered as a loving and caring mother and grandmother, who considered her grand-sons her boys. She loved to spend time with her family and was known as an excel-lent cook. She was always seen at Alex's or Blake's soccer games or band con-certs and was so very proud of them both. She enjoyed knitting, quilting, doing crafts and motorcycle rid-ing.

Surviving are a daughter Tammy (Jeff) Peterson, two grandsons: Alexander J. Peterson and Blake Allan Peterson, all of Jamestown and by her constant com-panion, her cat, ''Precious.''

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Lance A. Pearson who died Feb. 4, 2008.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Adam Rohler, pastor of First Covenant Church, and the Rev. David Trosper, retired pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
