A 52-year tradition continued on Aug. 9 as members of the Chautauqua Lake Yacht Club participated in the annual ''Swim Across the Lake'' event.
The annual swim is sponsored by the CLYC's junior program, which runs every summer for six weeks with a primary focus on sailing and swimming skills. Rowing, knots, flag protocol and safety awareness are also taught.
The swimmers completed the 1.2-mile swim from the opposite shore to the yacht club within 1 hours. Each swimmer was accompanied by an adult spotter in a canoe, kayak or jet ski. The Chautauqua County Sheriff's department helped to monitor boat traffic during the swim.
