BUSTI - The public is invited to the fifth annual Busti Hamlet Development Group Ernie Schuyler's chicken barbecue to be held at the Busti gazebo starting at 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
Tickets are $10 and people are asked to bring their lawn chairs. The meal includes half a chicken, corn on the cob, coleslaw, baked beans, a roll and a cold drink.
The Busti Federated Church will be having a ''Fun Day'' which includes a pie baking contest and games for all ages, including a dunk tank. The Busti Fire Department is hosting an open house and the Lakewood-Busti Police Department will be performing voluntary child seat safety inspections and a K-9 demonstration. At 7 p.m., the Old Dawg Bluegrass Band will perform.
The Busti gazebo is one of items the Busti Hamlet Development Group has established for town residents.
The annual Busti-Hamlet Development Group fundraiser raises money for various ongoing projects.
The group was formed in 2008 by community residents. Projects that have included a Veteran's Memorial and Veteran's Day memorial service; the hamlet gazebo that is dedicated to all past, present and future Busti firemen and auxiliary members; summer Saturday night concerts at the gazebo; various beautification projects including the annual yard sale; hamlet signs and flower bed competition; and a spring highway cleanup.
Proceeds from this year's chicken barbecue will go toward a Citizen of the Year Award, with a park bench in the winner's name.
Tickets are available at the Boomerang Restaurant, the Hazeltine Public Library and Jesse Robbin's Service Station, all located in the center of the hamlet. For additional information, call Rick Thor at 763-7210 or 485-3902.
