First of all we would like to report our annual Christmas/Holiday Parade will be held on Nov. 30 this year.
The way Thanksgiving and Christmas fall we would only have about two weeks for our Community Christmas Tree to be lit for all to see so we decided to move our holiday celebration ahead one week. Hopefully, knowing this, will help you plan your holiday events - there will be more on this later.
This next weekend will be another big weekend for Jamestown and the Downtown Jamestown Development Corporation. We have two of our biggest events of the year. It will be our ninth annual Thunder In The Streets and 20th annual Cruisin'. If we have good weather these two events draw thousands of people. I have to say these events may now be drawing more people then our Christmas Parade. It seems these events have become a reunion type of event and everyone shows up to see people they have not seen in the past year.
From Washington Street west, on Third Street, we will host Thunder In The Streets on Friday. While this is promoted as a motorcycle event, all are welcome to view the great bikes we have here in Jamestown and the surrounding area. This year we will be featuring Team FMX - a motorcycle stunt team of national prominence. Their performance will be more daring then those of the past. Their show comes complete with ramp structures. Times for these shows will be 2:30 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. If you love the sound or roaring engines and the smell of burning rubber this will be the place to be.
Thunder In The Streets will start at noon and finish at 11 p.m. There will be live bands all day on Renaissance Square and an additional concert at the Jamestown Savings Bank Arena patio from 6 to 8 p.m. There will be food, vendors, motorcycles and beverage garden for your eating and dining pleasure.
As I said above, this year will be the 20th annual Cruisin'. This event has almost become a legend in Jamestown. Cruisin' will be held from 5 to 11 p.m. There will be hundreds of classic cars with every type of car imaginable. The Der Kobblers Automobile Association work with us to make this the best Cruisin' ever. There will be food, beverage garden and music by the Untouchables. The Untouchables provide a great rock and roll show and it is very hard not to tap your toe to the beat of their tunes.
Now the word on the street is that we will have a special guest appearance by none other then Elvis himself. When Elvis teams up with the Untouchables, you will be entertained in a manner you will not find anywhere else except right in downtown Jamestown. There will be a number of contests like hula hoop twirling, bubble gum chewing, yo-yo spinning, dancing, costumes and all kinds of fun, along with cash prizes for the winners.
If you are looking for a great fun evening that is affordable for everyone, downtown Jamestown will be the place to be. Lineup and car registration will be in the Jamestown High School parking lot for Cruisin'. So, let's put on your loafers and have a great time dancing the night away.
