SHERMAN - Every year there is one day Sherman residents look forward to - Sherman Day.
During what was deemed the hottest day yet this summer, more than 1,000 people showed up in Sherman to take place in the festivities. Naturally, current members of the town were in attendance, but many former residents came back to enjoy the events and participate in the culture of their hometown.
Yard sales could be seen on every corner as everyone contributed what they could to the community atmosphere. The festivities started early at 8:30 a.m. with a 5k run, then continued at 10 a.m. with the annual Grand Parade. Following the parade, a time capsule was presented to Mayor John Paterson at the Yorker Museum. At noon, the Stanley Hose Co. Firemen hosted a barbecue.

After enjoying the delicious meal, fair-goers settled in to watch the lawn tractor poker run, in which participants hopped in their four-wheelers and tractors and toured the town in an exuberant victory lap. Kids were kept occupied as well, as a colorful clown hosted afternoon activities from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Further entertainment came in the form of several furry quadrupeds in a petting zoo.
Those who elected to stay late listened to a live DJ at Murdock's, which began at 9 p.m.
