Mayville Seniors Announce Annual Sloppy Joe Lunch

August 4, 2012
The Post-Journal

Fifty-four members of the Mayville Senior Citizens met last month for an indoor picnic. Fred Anderson and Emerson Chandler grilled hot dogs, and the members supplied the rest of the picnic food. Virginia Scriven asked a blessing for the food, and the group and Sandy Anderson called the table numbers. Louise Richer, Bonnie Johnson, Dolly Gilbert, and Nancy Peters set the tables and made the coffee and lemonade.

After the meal Ms. Scriven read, "A Very Old Man," "Self" and " An Eight Year Old's Prospective of God" and led the group in prayer. President Joyce Ayres led the flag salute and then conducted the short business meeting. Secretary Ayling read the minutes, and treasurer Edna Brown gave her report. Senior Council representative, Jeff Wagner reported that there will be the OFA Picnic at Midway and the next Council Meeting will be on Oct. 11 at the North Harmony Center.

Wanda Gustafson read the July birthday celebrants: life members Jack Abrams, Ruth Stacy, Francis Freay, Josephine Crandall, and Betty Lou Zenns. Others celebrating are: Mary Lou Catania, Al Warner, Bertha Paddock, Nancy Navarro, Gloria Moore, Neal Johnson, Ruth Joslyn, Sonja Mount and Fred Anderson. The couples celebrating wedding milestones are Leo and Rita Lescynski, 70 years; and Emerson and Sandy Chandler, and Roger and Sue Klossner.

Trip co-chairs Sandy Anderson and Jean Kelsey reported that all had a great time at the Presque Isle race track. The trips to Vidlers and Riverside are filling up, so make your reservations soon.

No one won the lottery, but Sandy Anderson won the door prize.

The next meeting of the Mayville Senior Citizens will be the annual Sloppy Joe Lunch on Aug. 16. The sandwiches will be provided, and members should bring dishes to compliment and their own table service.

Guest Andy Scriven closed the meeting by singing "The Star-Spangled Banner."
