ELLINGTON - The Ellington Town Picnic will be held Friday through Sunday.
Friday night activities include the Miss Ellington Queen contest, tethered balloon rides by Sky Sail Balloons and music by Willow Creek.
Saturday begins with the Medallion Treasure Hunt and the baby show at 10 a.m. The fire department will serve its chicken barbecue starting at 11:30 a.m. The afternoon program includes music with Maurice Brown and Friends, presentation of the past fire department and auxiliary queens and town picnic queens. The Lucille Ball Jr. Guilders will perform at 2 p.m. followed by a decorated cake contest and auction. The parade will begin at 6 p.m. with the parade route down Main Street. Saturday evening will feature music by Paul Zittle and Pure Country. A fireworks display will take place at 10 p.m.
A non-denominational church service will be held in the park at 10:30 a.m. Sunday followed by a community picnic. Southern Tier Mini Tractor pullers will hold a tractor pull from 1 to 5 p.m. at the ball field. Old-fashioned games will be held in the park for children.
Other events for the weekend include a historical display at the library featuring photos and newspaper articles from the past 100 town picnics.
Doreen Frost, Ellington postmaster, will be available with a special postal cancellation stamp. The Town Picnic Committee will be selling commemorative booklets, post cards, key chains, pens and T-shirts.
Contests include woodcutting, horseshoe pitching,pet show, decorated bicycle and stroller contest, cornhole tournament and a hydrant hook-up contest by the Ellington Volunteer Fire Department.
Rides and a large variety of food will be available including the Ellington United Methodist Church smorgasbord dinner at 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
A Light the Park event will be held on Friday night to honor all veterans and active military members of the United State Armed Forces and on Saturday night to honor all citizens of Ellington.
