The Post-Journal

A Buffalo man taken into custody Friday was found in possession of a high-powered weapon that authorities believe may have been stolen.

At 9:40 a.m., Jamestown Police responded to a call at 739 E. Second St. for a report of a man at the location with a large rifle. Officers were able to locate the subject inside the apartment and after he gave a false name, officers identified him as Deion J. Carr, 27, of Buffalo.

Officers observed a large rifle leaning against the wall and were able to secure the weapon without incident. The rife was fully loaded and identified as a SKS Assault Rifle (7.62 caliber) with a bayonet attached.

A records check on Carr showed that he has absconded from New York State Parole. He was taken to Jamestown City Jail and charged with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and false personation in addition to the parole violation. Carr is currently awaiting arraignment.

Investigators are working with agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives in an attempt to find the origin of the gun. Anyone with more information on the gun or its actual owner is asked to call the JPD at 483-7537 or an anonymous tip can be left on the department's tip line at 483-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
