Phyllis J. Stewart

Phyllis J. Stewart, 86, of 30 Grandin St., died at 1:18 a.m. Saturday, July 14, 2012, in WCA Hospital.

She was born Dec. 5, 1925, in Warren, Pa., a daughter of the late James V. and Myrtle Hayes Ryan, and attended Lander High School.

Phyllis had been employed by the BOCES Hewes Educational Center for a number of years, retiring in 1990.

She was a member of the former Calvary Assembly of God, as well the Eagles Club and Eagles Auxiliary.

Surviving is a son, the Rev. Dr. Edward T. Funk of Orangevale, Calif.; and four grandchildren: Lee Manzella of Brocton, Susan Manzella of Dunkirk, and Amanda and Adam Funk, both of Sacramento, Calif.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack M. Stewart, who died in 1995; two daughters: Barbara J. Manzella in 2002 and Karen S. Johnson in 2004; a brother, Robert Ryan; and a sister, Patricia Ryan.

A private graveside service will be held at the Foster Cemetery in Lander. Visitation will not be observed.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Memorials Center, 6725 Lyons St., E. Syracuse, NY 13057.
