Motorsports enthusiast who have been waiting for a local Yamaha dealer in the Jamestown area can now celebrate.

In May, Reid's Powersports, 2950 N. Main St., Extension, opened its doors as an official dealer of Yamaha motorsports products. The business, which is in the former location of the Harley-Davidson dealership, is owned by the Reid family, who continue to run the Harley-Davidson dealership, which is now located in Falconer.

Ethan Reid, Reid's Powersports sales manager, said the business sells both street and off-road motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles, side-by-sides and power generators. The business also sells parts and has a service department. Reid said the business is the only official Yamaha motorsports products seller, with a parts and service department, in the area.

''Before us the closest was Gowanda or Erie,'' he said. ''People don't have to drive an hour or more now to get a simple part, a tire changed or to get their bike inspected. This is huge for guys that don't want to waste their time driving out of town, which they don't have to do anymore.''

Reid said they plan on expanding the service department in the future. He said they also have products from Parts Unlimited and offer other aftermarket parts, as well.

Reid said he has always been a motorsports enthusiast and enjoys being able to discuss the topic with customers.

''It is a fun subject to talk to people about. If it has a motor and it has wheels, you can't go wrong with that combination,'' he said.

Reid said when he makes a sale he knows people will be happy once they have a chance to use their new motorsports product.

''I like to see people happy when they get their new four-wheeler or dirt bike,'' he said. ''It is neat to get them going with something they will have fun with. All toys are fun.''

Reid said the new motorsports business goes hand-in-hand with the family's other business of selling Harley-Davidsons.

''Most people that have a Harley also like to have fun with other motor toys,'' he said.

Reid's Powersports has a wide selection of products on the showroom floor. Also, Reid said he can order Yamaha products for customers.

The business is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
