Church To Host Ice Cream Social
Kidder Memorial United Methodist Church will host an ice cream social from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Proceeds will benefit an 11-member team traveling in August to the Village of Hope, Haiti. The team includes teachers, nurses, a pastor, electrician, carpenter and others giving of their time and talents to better the lives of students in Haiti who continue to struggle as the result of the 2010 earthquake.
Historical Society Picnic Is July 11
FALCONER - The Chautauqua County Historical Society's annual picnic will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 11, in Falconer Park. In addition to spending an evening with others interested in local history, attendees will hear from Jason Sample, a historical society trustee, who will lead a discussion entitled "Early Water Transportation in Southeastern Chautauqua County." The focus will be on the keelboats, flatboats and storeboats that roamed Chautauqua Lake and the Conewango, Cassadaga and Chadakoin waterways during the first half of the 19th century. The event is free and open to the public. Anyone planning to attend is asked to bring a dish to pass. The picnic and lecture will take place rain or shine in Pavilion 3 at the park. Lodge To Host Fish Fry Dinner Friday
BEMUS POINT- The Thule Lodge, 4123 Pancake Hill Road, will hold its Friday night dinner at the lodge from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday. The dinner is open to everyone. The menu will include a fish dinner, prepared in one of three ways, or a roast pork and stuffing meal. The Thule Lodge serves to preserve the Swedish heritage through events and activities. New members are welcome.
Craft Show Looking For Vendors
Holiday on the Hill is currently accepting applications for the upcoming 2012 show. This year the show will be held on Friday, Nov. 16 from 4 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Girl Scout Council Office, 2661 Horton Road, Jamestown. There are limited openings for distinctive handmade items in a variety of artistic mediums. Items are displayed in a unique boutique style and vendors are not required to be in attendance. The Chautauqua County Fair's Floral Hall exhibitor handbooks are now available online and at the fair office. Floral Hall books and additional entry forms can be found at www.chautauquacountyfair.org or at the Fair Office from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, 1089 Central Ave., Dunkirk. Reading Program Starts July 10
LAKEWOOD - The Lakewood Memorial Library's 2012 Summer Reading Program is titled ''Dream Big ... Read!'' The program will start at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 10, and will continue each Tuesday until July 31. The reading program is for children ages 3 to 11. Preschool children must be accompanied by an adult.
