John L. and Harriet Smith of Lakewood, N.Y., celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on May 20, 2012, in Allegany State Park. The celebration was hosted by their children: Adrian Madden of Lakewood, N.Y., Bradley and Susan Smith of Ashville, N.Y., and Matthew and Cathy Smith of Jamestown, N.Y. They have five grandchildren: Sheridan Smith and Emily Naetzker of Jamestown, N.Y., Jamie Dahlbeck of Portage, Pa., Alex Smith of Pittsburgh, and Destiny Dahlbeck of Texas. They also have seven great-grandchildren.
Smith and the former Harriet Spelling were married May 17, 1952, in Jamestown.
Smith retired from the Chautauqua County Highway Department where he had been employed as a heavy equipment operator and an operator of the Bemus Point Stow Ferry. Mrs. Smith is a member of the Transplant Garden Club, the Antique Study Club of Jamestown, and the North Harmony Quilters Society. They are both members of the Lakewood Rod and Gun Club, Celoron-West Ellicott Senior Citizens and the North Harmony Senior Citizens.
