Climate-controlled self-storage units will be installed in the former Mr. Salvage and Evans Skateland location this summer.
Jim Sirianno, owner of the property, has announced plans to convert the building at 20 Steele St., Jamestown, to a state-of-the-art self-storage facility. The 22,000-square-foot building will be known as RiverWalk Self Storage, consisting of individual cubicles, which will be similar to outdoor units. The facility will have 120 to 130 cubicles that will come in sizes from 5-by-5 feet to 10-by-30 feet.
''It will be similar to outside self-storage facilities, but inside where the climate can be controlled as far as humidity, heat and cooling, and they will have 24/7 security,'' Sirianno said. ''We spent a lot of time doing feasibility studies relative to storage needs in the area. Especially ones with climate control. There is a demand for them and the area has been calling for a facility of this sort.''
Sirianno said customers will have access seven days a week, with security cameras running around the clock. Customers will have a personal pin code to access the building. Each unit will have a garage door that only a tenant will have a lock for and the roof construction will be steel mesh to allow for ventilation and climate control.
Sirianno said, for now, the self-storage facility along the riverwalk is a valuable business for the city.
''Is it the perfect thing for the riverwalk project, of course not, but neither is anything else down there right now,'' he said. ''I have a lumber yard on my right and a power plant on my left. From that angle it makes sense. Down the road we will see the riverwalk take off and I think it will change the landscape.''
Sirianno said he has worked closely with city officials on the project. He is waiting for the floor plan to be completed to submitting it to city officials for permit approval. He said people could possibly start using the facility by the end of June.
