Have Respect For Residents Safety

May 24, 2012

To the Readers' Forum:

As many of you know, there is a major construction project on Lakeview Avenue. This year, the section between Buffalo Street and Newton Avenue is being worked on and that area is currently closed.

You will see large orange cones and Road Closed signs designating the closed portion. However, many cars are continuing to drive around the closure and use the road.

As a resident of this area, I'm hoping that people will stop. As you can imagine, just from the construction alone the street is already very dusty and dirty. When people drive on the street, usually at high rates of speed, the dust is stirred up even more and makes it almost impossible for people to enjoy their porches and yards. This past weekend my husband and I were attempting to do some yard work and our son was playing in the yard but it was very difficult to enjoy our home and the beautiful weather when we were constantly being sprayed with dust from the road when car after car continued to speed down the street.

Also, take into account the possible damage that you are doing to your car by driving on this portion of the road. The drop offs at the entrances to the construction area are quite significant (we've heard many people scraping the bottom of their cars) and the road itself is very rocky and bumpy. You only have to go a block out of your way to find an alternate route. I hope people will consider making a slight detour to allow the residents of this area a chance to enjoy their summer as much as possible while living in a construction zone.

Thank you!
