Schutt’s Constructs Overhang To Aid Buying Experience

In order to protect customers from variable weather elements and to expand its showroom, a new overhang has been constructed at Schutt's Saw & Mower.

Dan Schutt, Schutt's Saw & Mower president, said the new overhang was constructed at the beginning of the year which allows for more tractors and mowers to be displayed at the business. Also, the overhang allows for weather protection for customers and equipment.

''People can pull right up and get out of their cars and go right into the store without having to walk up in the rain,'' he said. ''So far, we have received a lot comments from customers about the convenience it adds.''

The new addition added to Schutt’s Saw & Mower, located at 301 Hazeltine Ave., Jamestown. With the overhang, no equipment sold or serviced at Schutt’s will be affected by the weather. Also, if it is raining or snowing, customers can park next to the overhang and be protected from the weather.

The third-generation business has been in operation for 52 years. Through the years, the business has had several locations - starting with the home of the founder, Clare Schutt. Clare started the business by selling chainsaws from his house in Falconer and from the back of his car. Following Clare, David Schutt, Dan's father, followed his father's footsteps in operating the business. Now, Dan controls the family business, which is located at 310 Hazeltine Ave., Jamestown. The company has been at its location for 10 years, and the move has been successful for the family.

''Our 10 biggest years of business have all been here,'' he said. ''We were located along Fairmount Avenue before. People said we'd be hurt by moving, but it has been different than what people said. We are a destination more than an impulse place to go.''

Schutt said quality service and a familiar face is why people seek out the family-oriented business when shopping for a lawn mower, tractor, snowmobile, snowblower or chainsaw.

''A majority of our business is from people that have bought products here before. They know they can trust us to get them the right information,'' he said. ''We have the service and parts people want and a knowledgeable staff. People you know. People you've seen before.''

Schutt said, so far, spring sales have been good. Even with a down winter, with less snowmobiles and snowblowers being purchased because of a lack of snow, the business is still doing well.

''Despite this being a down economy, last year was our best year in sales,'' he said. ''We really appreciate the community's support.''

The business sells Arctic Cat ATVs, side-by-sides and snowmobiles; Cub Cadet tractors, lawnmowers, log splitters, tillers, utility vehicles and snowblowers; a complete line of Stihl handheld products; Toro walk-behind mowers and snowblowers; and carries other national name brand products.

Schutt's Saw & Mower hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, 8 a.m. to noon Wednesday and Saturday and 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday.
