Cattaraugus County is now participating in the ProAct prescription drug discount program.
ProAct will mail prescription discount cards to every household in Cattaraugus County to ensure any resident in need of prescription drug financial relief may benefit from this discount program. The discount card covers all prescription medications. The cards cannot be used in conjunction with any other type of insurance or to discount co-pays. Residents who currently have insurance can use the card in the event that a particular drug is not covered under their current insurance plan.
Cards will be mailed to every Cattaraugus County household this week. Various county agencies and municipalities will also receive a supply of cards for distribution to residents. One card can be used for the entire family, regardless of age of the family member.
The ProAct card is accepted at most Cattaraugus County pharmacies and can be used nationwide at any of the more than 55,000 participating pharmacies. Participants can expect to save, on average, between 10 and 20 percent on brand name drugs and 20 to 70 percent on generic drugs, at no cost to the county or participants. The program is sponsored by the New York State Association of Counties and is offered by more than half of the counties in New York state.
In addition to pharmaceutical discounts, ProAct also offers discount programs for vision and dental. Upon referral, discounts can also be obtained for hearing and LASIK.
For more information, including a listing of participating pharmacies, ProAct can be reached toll-free at 877-776-2285 or by visiting www.NYRxDiscountCard.com. Additional cards will also be available throughout the county and at various county offices.
