Drug Task Force Meeting Tonight
BEMUS POINT - The Bemus Point United Methodist Church will host a community drug task force meeting at 7 p.m. today. In October 2011, Robert Stutman, a retired drug enforcement officer, visited the Bemus Point Central School District. Since his visit, he has been working with community members to develop a plan of action for the community. The task force is looking to increase its membership. The public is welcome to attend.
Mother's Day Dinner Set
FORESTVILLE - A Mother's Day chicken barbecue sponsored by the Forestville Order of the Eastern Star will be held from noon until sold out at the Forestville United Methodist Church on Park Street, Forestville. Auxiliary To Hold Annual Election
FREWSBURG - The Samuel L. Derby American Legion Auxiliary Unit 556 will hold its annual election of officers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. All members are encouraged to attend the meeting, which will be at the post. Wives, daughters or granddaughters of wartime veterans are welcome to join the auxiliary, which benefits local veterans and veteran's organizations.
Sign Up For Yard Sale By Monday
The village of Mayville will be the location for Community Wide Yard/Garage Sales on Saturday, May 26. To participate, at no cost, and hold a sale that day, call the Mayville/Chautauqua Chamber of Commerce at 753-3113 or email to maychautchamb@yahoo.com and provide the location of the sale before Monday. The chamber will place these addresses on a list, and include a copy of a local map, that will be available for pickup locally or by contacting the Chamber of Commerce. The Village of Mayville Junk Collection will take place June 4, with junk being placed at the curb June 1-4. These yard/garage sales taking place just before the junk collection will give village residents the opportunity to place any unsold items by the curb for the collection.
Preschool Open House Is Monday
Zion Covenant Preschool and Childcare, 520 Fairmount Ave., will be having an open house on Monday from 9:30 to 11 a.m. This is a time to tour the facility and observe classes in action. For more information call 664-9137
Safety Course Begins Tuesday
An electrical safety course for maintenance personnel will be offered at Jamestown Community College on May 15 and 17. The course, which meets from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m., will be taught by Steve Quelet. Tuition is $200. To register, call JCC's Center for Continuing Education at 338-1005. Participants will examine electrical hazards and proper safety and troubleshooting methods. Topics include regulatory functions, lockout/tagout, safe equipment installation, and testing procedures. Quelet spent 12 years in electrical construction and 30 years in electrical industrial maintenance. He has conducted electrical safety industrial maintenance training sessions with area companies.
