SHERIDAN - Liberty Vineyards & Winery of Sheridan led New York state wineries in double gold medals at the recent Florida State Fair International Wine Competition.

The winery received double gold medals for its 2010 Riesling, White Side of the Moon and Purple Haze wines. Double gold medals are awarded when there is unanimous agreement among judges that the wine merits a gold medal.

In addition to the double gold medals, the winery also received silver medals for its Fredonia and Reds, Whites & Blues wines and bronze medals for its Rufus Red and Lucy's in the Sky wines.

"We're very happy with these awards. Riesling, White Side of the Moon and Purple Haze are customer favorites, and we're glad to see them get this recognition," said Gary Burmaster, who owns the winery with his wife, Pam.

Liberty also received recognition from the Beverage Testing Institute in Chicago, which rated Liberty's Traminette as "Highly Recommended" and a "Best Buy." The institute described the wine as "flavorful with a nice Old World character." The institute also awarded Liberty's Reds, Whites & Blues with a "Highly Recommended" and "Best Buy" rating, and described the wine as "a charming off-dry, carefree sipper." Liberty's Pinot Grigio also received a "Highly Recommended" rating from the Beverage Testing Institute.

Liberty Vineyards & Winery produces more than 20 wines. The winery is family-owned and operated and located at 2861 Route 20 in Sheridan. The tasting and sales room is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays. For more information, visit www.libertywinery.com.
