Wheelchairs Work Poorly On Bad Sidewalks

April 9, 2012
The Post-Journal

To the Readers' Forum:

Guess I'll have fun in my wheelchair! Only trouble is - I need someone to push it. Maybe I'll ask the mayor to push my chair so he can see the state of disrepair.

We will try to avoid those nasty potholes and cracks. Good luck! They are everywhere. I tell everyone I see about them.

Now, I'm writing about them. See them? Feel them? You can't just ignore them. Do something about them. I'm just one person in a wheelchair and I am 92 years old. You ask me what streets and sidewalks to avoid? All of them! I use a cushion. Not enough! Tomorrow I will use two. Maybe that will lessen the shocks.

Let's get together and do something. Unite! Get the ball rolling (my legs don't work too god, so someone else will have to kick the ball for me). Give it a good one!

Summer is coming and a lot of us will be outside enjoying the sun and warm weather. Not the dreaded cracks, potholes and uneven sidewalks.

Sure hope my ramblings get some attention from the higher-ups. I'd sure like a nice ride through our beautiful city without having to watch for hazards and miss all the beauty.

Thank you to the gentleman who helped my daughter with my chair at the hospital parking lot. Chivalry is not dead!
