Good Job, Jamestown

To the Readers' Forum:

So often we just hear the negative side of things that happen in the news but I wanted to share something really neat that was said by some visitors who came to Jamestown.

Pastor Chris and his chairman of deacons, Shannon, came here for a visit last from Hartford, Ala. They were looking into having a baseball clinic at Bergman Park and VBS this summer for the community along with Martin Road Christian Fellowship (all children in the community and churches are invited to participate). They have three local baseball coaches who plan to come from Hartford.

They were extremely impressed with the people they met in Jamestown. They could not believe how friendly the folks were at the city Parks and Recreation Department and The Red Roof Motel.

We even asked directions from a postman and when we turned the wrong way, he caught up to us to help us get turned around. They just could not believe how helpful folks were in Jamestown. They said about the postman, "Something like that would not happen in Alabama.''

When they left their words were, "We came expecting the cold shoulder but are leaving surprised at the friendliness of your community."

They said, "The only difference between Jamestown, NY, and Hartford, Alabama, is folks talk different in Jamestown."
