Roth opened his business, located at 1387 E. Second St., in October with hopes of teaching martial arts to children, teenagers and adults.
''So far, we're off to a great start. The kid's classes have been great,'' he said. ''I can't ask for a better start.''
Roth, who is a state trooper, said he has always had an interest in fighting sports. He began his martial arts training by studying karate while he was in college. Since then, he has expanded his repertoire to learn an array of martial arts, including Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
''It is something I've been addicted to since I started,'' he said. ''I do daily training. I really take it seriously.''
He takes it so seriously that Roth competes in regional tournaments. In November, Roth competed in a Muay Thai fight held at the Statler Ballroom in Buffalo. The event was sanctioned by the United States Muay Thai Association. Roth won a unanimous decision in his amateur debut in the heavyweight division.
''A lot of the students also get to compete in competitions,'' he said.
Roth said he has teamed up with Mark Shaw, a Muay Thai instructor. Shaw is the Kru, or professor, for the Muay Thai lessons taught. Roth said Kinetix Combat Sports & Fitness offers top-notch children programs.
''The lessons teach kids basic techniques that gives them confidence and self control,'' he said. ''The programs have been successful and they have a lot of fun.''
Roth said anyone interested in a free trial class can call 969-0896 and more information on Kinetix can be found on Facebook.
