The Jamestown Strategic Planning and Partnerships Commission invites Jamestown residents to a reporting and planning event set for 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 15, at the Dr. Lillian Vitanza Ney Renaissance Center, located at the corner of Washington and Third streets. Light refreshments will be provided, beginning at 5 p.m. The public is invited and there is no charge to attend.
The Strategic Planning and Partnerships Commission is a volunteer group which meets throughout the year to discuss ideas about how to make Jamestown a more vibrant and livable community and to organize action teams to progress those ideas as goals.
The event will give city residents the opportunity to hear short action team reports about 2011 accomplishments and to help set 2012 priorities and goals. Following the team presentations, people who attend will break into small groups to help set future priorities for the commission.
Commission topics in 2011 included: the Jamestown Urban Design Plan, neighborhood initiatives, education, leadership diversity, regionalism and health care.
Mayor Sam Teresi appoints commission members who represent various organizations and aspects of community life, such as: the Jamestown Public Schools, WCA Hospital, local churches, Jamestown Community College, city industries, local foundations, the Jamestown Renaissance Corporation, the Downtown Jamestown Development Corporation, private citizens, city government and the Jamestown Board of Public Utilities.
Co-chairs of the commission include local banker Jennifer Satalino and City Council President Greg Rabb, who ask that city residents attend and share their ideas for the improvement of Jamestown.
According to Ms. Satalino, the meeting will provide the commission with the opportunity to report on successes in recent years, such as the adoption of the Urban Plan, the creation of the Jamestown Renaissance Corporation to steer implementation of the plan and the emphasis placed on neighborhood revitalization.
"The SPPC will seek direction for the coming year and invite participation in the SPPC's ongoing action teams," said Ms. Satalino.
Rabb added, "Goal-setting events such as the one planned for Feb. 15 have helped develop issues addressed by the Commission, such as the education and diversity leadership action teams which have been organized during the past year."
