After serving the FBI in Houston, Honolulu and Buffalo for 27 years, Falconer native Matt Hall has returned home to operate his own investigation business.

Hall is the operator of Southern Tier Investigations, a licensed professional private investigative firm. The business is located inside the Medical Arts Building, 500 Pine St., Jamestown. Hall said his goal is to provide thorough and prompt investigative services and consultations for legal firms, businesses and corporations and private citizens, taking the time to tailor and individualize services to the specific needs of each client.

Hall, who retired from FBI on Sept. 30, has the expertise as a technically trained special agent with extensive training and experience in electronic and covert investigative techniques and surveillance. Hall said he will handle every investigation to clearly and honestly establish the facts of the case providing clients with a detailed report.

Hall is a third-generation law enforcement officer. His grandfather, Albert, and his father, Frank, both worked for the Falconer Police Department.

''I loved playing cops and robbers as a child. I never wanted to be the robber,'' he said.

Hall said he is affiliated with the Society of Former Special Agents of the FBI Inc., which is a fraternal, educational and community-minded organization of nearly 8,000 members who served with honor as special agents in the FBI.

''By working with former law enforcement associates, located worldwide, I have the ability to conduct investigations nearly anywhere in the world,'' he said.

Hall is also associated with the National Technical Investigators Association, which is composed of more than 3,000 law enforcement, intelligence officers and support staff who provide the technical operations, surveillance activities and scientific support for hundreds of federal, state and local agencies across the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.

After serving the FBI for most of his career in Buffalo, and even in Hawaii for seven years, Hall said he wanted to come back to Chautauqua County.

''This is home, so, I came back,'' he said. ''I love investigating. I'm happy to be home. I feel very fortunate.''

So far Hall has done investigative work for insurance companies, was involved in a corporate espionage case and has located people. He is marketing his services toward attorneys and law firms who need investigative work done. Also, he is marketing his services to helping insurance companies as well.

''You get to the point you want to work for yourself. When I was with the FBI, I had no choice,'' he said. ''Here if I get a phone call ... I don't have to take the case. I get to pick and choose.''
