Kiana Vullo, sixth-grader at the Catholic Academy of the Holy Family, is an only child. However, with all of the activities she does, both in and out of school, she keeps her parents very busy.

This year is Kiana's first year participating in ski club, where she goes to Peek'n Peak to hit the slopes. She also participates in Holy Family's cross-country running club, and has since she was in third grade. Kiana enjoys spending her time in the running club with her friends.

"Me and my friends wanted to get faster. We race against each other and stuff," Kiana said.

According to Kiana, the cross-country running club goes to Lakeview Cemetery to practice. Together with her teammates and friends, she runs a mile in order to train.

Kiana has a musical flair as well. She is a part of Holy Family's drama club. She said that she enjoys participating in the musicals at the school, and has also been a part of "Godspell."

"I like acting and being a different person. It's fun to just do whatever on stage," Kiana said.

Standing Out In The Crowd

Additionally, Kiana participates in band, where she plays percussion. She said that she has discovered that playing the mallets and playing the piano is "kinda the same," which is why she enjoys both.

Kiana is a member of the Sharks swim team, where her favorite stroke is freestyle. Although she hasn't attended many swim meets yet, she said that she has attended some.

"You get to compete on your own team against yourself and get faster," Kiana said.

In school, Kiana most enjoys being in math class, where she can exercise her problem-solving skills. She said that she also really enjoys attending Holy Family School, as opposed to a public school.

"The classes aren't very big. And, I think that you get more help from the teachers. Plus, you get to learn about God," Kiana said.

Although she is an only child, Kiana has a friend at home in her dog, Oreo, who is a border collie.

"Sometimes it gets boring, but I get to hang out with all of my friends a lot. And, it's fun to just be with my parents sometimes, too," Kiana said.

With her friends, she has spent a lot of time practicing for the school's talent show.

"We also play a lot of games. And, we play the Wii and like playing outside, too," Kiana said.

Kiana has two more years left at the Catholic Academy of the Holy Family, before she graduates to high school. Until then, she is sure to keep busy and continue to succeed.
