The Post-Journal

The YWCA of Jamestown is preparing for its eighth annual Mistletoe Mart, which will be held on Friday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The building has been decorated for the holiday season and is waiting to welcome shoppers.

Those who attend the event will be able to choose from a variety of unique gift items offered by more than 35 vendors. These items will include handcrafted purses, picture frames, floral arrangements, wreaths, jewelry and a variety of knitted, sewn and crocheted items. Packaged items will include spices, dips, cutlery and cosmetics. Cost of admission at the door will be a $1 donation for adults; children will be admitted free.

This year the food theme was inspired by the Wild West and will be featured as a ''chuck wagon'' lunch. The menu includes a pulled pork sandwich, chuck wagon beans and sweet cornbread. Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day. Shoppers can find that special gift and enjoy a great lunch.

The ever-popular prize drawing will feature more than 40 items from several local businesses. These will include certificates from Wing City, Cherry Lounge, LaScala, The Mustard Seed, The Coffee Cup, Lisciandro's, Bob Evans, Friendly's, Belle-View East, Jones Bakery, Taco Hut, Applebee's and Donna Tranum Massage. Other items will include a $50 savings bond from Jamestown Savings Bank, a floral arrangement from Garden of Eden and several gift baskets that include items from the YWCA board members as well as Jamestown Savings Bank Arena, Labyrinth Press Company, the Lucy-Desi Museum, AutoZone, Hot Bodies, Starbucks, Lakewood Cinema 6, Burger King, Sunoco, Lander's Men's Store, Panache, Honest John's and The Basket Company.

Tickets can be purchased at the event or in advance at the YWCA or from any staff or board member. Cost is $1 each or 10 for $5. The drawing will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday. Winners need not be present to win. There will be a bake sale and will include a variety of delicious cookies and pies.

An upcoming event that the YWCA will be introducing at the Mistletoe Mart will be the Snow Princess Party to be held on Saturday, Dec. 3. The event will be for girls ages 4-12, and they will receive ''the royal treatment.''

Proceeds from the Mistletoe Mart will benefit the many programs offered by the YWCA of Jamestown to the women and children in the community.
