"From a police standpoint, we have a very good relationship with the local media, and it is very beneficial," said Jamestown Police Captain Robert Samuelson.
Police say that Green took a woman's wallet from a Wilson Farms counter, at 1011 E. Second St., and then used it to purchase more than $700 worth of merchandise throughout the area.
"An elderly woman left her wallet on the counter, and the suspect took and it used the credit cards," said Samuelson.
According to police, a young white man with a tattoo of three dots on his left hand, tattoos on his left arm and a tattoo on the left side of his neck picked the wallet up and left the store. He then went to a West Ellicott business, spending $600 on several tools and an air compressor before going to Cattaraugus County and spending $100 on cigarettes.
Green turned himself in Monday and surrendered several items that were purchased using the stolen credit card.
"We received a tip on Friday, and matched it up, and went to a relative's house where he was staying," said Samuelson. "We were able to make phone contact with him and he turned himself in earlier today with most of the property that was purchased with the stolen credit cards."
Samuelson explained that Green was very cooperative while turning himself in, and said that "he said he planned to turn himself in since seeing his picture in the media."
A female accomplice was also identified, and it believed she assisted in making at least one of the purchases. Police have not released her name as charges against her are pending the result of further investigation.
"There will be charges from the adjacent agencies, pending their investigations," said Samuelson.
Samuelson said that police have reached out to the victim who is aware of the developments.
Green was held in Jamestown City Jail pending arraignment.
