Allegany State Park and the Cattaraugus County Arts Council are hosting "Flights of Fancy - artists re-imagine bird and butterfly houses," a collection of more than 50 bird houses, feeders and butterfly houses, throughout the summer.
The houses and feeders, built by the students in the Building Maintenance classes at Collins Correctional Facility with wood donated by Potter Lumber of Allegany were distributed to area artists to be transformed into works of art.
The display will continue until August 12, when the houses and feeders will be auctioned off during the annual Allegany State Park/Cattaraugus County Arts Council Beach Party at the Red House Beach area of the park. The event begins at 6 p.m. There will be live music, childrens' crafts, a juggler, a limbo and other events.
For more information on "Flights of Fancy" or the Beach Party, contact the Allegany State Park Recreation Department at 354-9101, ext. 236, the Cattaraugus County Arts Council at 372-7455.
