To the Readers' Forum:
Several religious leaders, from bishops to pastors, are demanding an apology from Harold Camping (the May 21st doomsday predictor).
Now exposed as a false prophet, he is accused of fraud, as apparently many folks gave away possessions and drained their bank accounts in preparation for the rapture. There is even an online petition demanding his public apology.
He filled his followers with hope in a lie, allowing some of them to spend large amounts of money towards the cause. He offered salvation in the face of a false Judgment Day, promising the eternal reward of Heaven for those who gave their full hearts to his god. And now religious authorities are demonizing him. Good Christian authorities, who spend their careers filling their followers with hope in a lie, allowing some of them to spend large amounts of money towards their cause, offering salvation in the face of a false Judgment Day, and promising the eternal reward of Heaven for those who give their full hearts to their god.
Good Christian authorities, who are just smart enough to keep their fraud nice and unfalsifiable.
