EAST RANDOLPH - If you're looking for a new pet and need the necessary supplies to feed and house it, there is a new business in Randolph that can suit your need for a new companion

The Critter Shack, located at 120 Main St., East Randolph, is a new pet store that opened in January. Carol Garvey said she decided to open her first pet store after learning the trade from another pet shop owner for the past 10 years.

''I wanted to be trained how to do it,'' she said. ''I always wanted my own. I love animals. I like working with people.''

Ms. Garvey said she has always had a love for animals. Also, she has always had a love for department stores.

''I used to always hang out in Murphy's (Department Store) and Grant's in Jamestown. That is where my mom would always find me,'' she said. ''I liked the atmosphere.''

She said owning the pet shop in Randolph is nice because she has lived there most of her life. So far, owning her own business has been a good decision.

''It is picking up,'' she said. ''It is definitely picking up (with more business).''

The shop has a wide variety of critters from reptiles to birds to hamsters to turtles to spiders. The store also has all the necessary pet supplies from food to display units like aquariums and cages.

The business accepts credit cards and offers gift certificates. The Critter Shack is opened from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
