Chiefs Unveil New Logo

March 9, 2011
The Post-Journal

In preparing for their third season, the Jamestown Chiefs semi-professional football franchise has unveiled a new logo and announced some of their 2011 events.

The new logo was designed by Gary Peters. In response to the public's request, the Chiefs insignia was incorporated in the design of the logo to honor our forefathers along with the chosen colors of navy and orange as voted on by the community.

The Chiefs were accepted as the 12th member of the Northeastern Football Alliance in the February of 2009. During the 2010 season, only their second year in existence, the Chiefs were able to finish second in the league.

''We're looking forward to a championship season this year,'' owner Joe Scapelitti said. ''Having competed in the championship game last year, we feel we are capable of winning this year's first-place trophy. With the talent and enthusiasm we have seen in the players this year, it is a goal we feel we can accomplish."

Chiefs head coach Barry Wright said, "We are working on basic fundamentals and drills to refine our play. We are taking one game at a time to get us to where we plan to be at the end of the season and that is to take first place in the league."

The team's first event of the year will be Bowling with the Chiefs on March 20 between noon and 2 p.m. at the Jamestown Bowling Company. The entry fee of $10 includes shoes, two games, pizza and pop. Chiefs players will be on hand to sign autographs.

On March 22, the Chiefs cheerleading tryouts will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Salvation Army Church. Those interested in trying out must be over 18. No previous experience is necessary and both male and female participants are encouraged to try out. It is advised that participants wear comfortable workout clothes.

For more information contact cheerleading coach Kristen Colvin at 467-0001.

The Chiefs' first home game is scheduled for June 4. The cost of tickets will be $5 for adults and children under 12 are free.
