The kindergartners and first-graders from the Catholic Academy of the Holy Family visited the Roger Tory Peterson Institute in December. The artwork of Charley Harper was on exhibit. This multidisciplinary experience allowed the children to view Mr. Harper's real and abstract birds, recognize the difference and try to recreate their own pictures. Students, from the observation room, were able to view many real birds in their habitat, eating at the bird feeders. The children also played games matching shapes and colors and wrote a poem using the rhyming words they found. As a culminating activity, they used colors from nature to make a mosaic.
