Return To His Alma Mater

New Brocton Middle/High School Principal Back To Where It All Began

BROCTON - The Brocton Central School Board of Education welcomed Jason C. Delcamp as the district's middle school and high school principal.

He took his seat at the board table, returning to the school where he earned his high school diploma in 1995. Delcamp went on to earn degrees from the State University at Alfred, State University at Fredonia and State University at Buffalo.

His previous employment was an automotive mechanics instructor at the LoGuidice BOCES Center, a job he held from 2000 to the present. Since 2008, Delcamp has served as a member of the Chautauqua Lake Central School board.

His appointment as Brocton principal was greeted with applause by those at the board meeting.

Mindy D'Amico and Susan Roberts then attempted to present the board with checks to cover the costs of a pep band and student council. D'Amico said the Booster Club was concerned about the cuts in extra-curricular activities the students are facing this year. She said the money was raised by the Booster Club to provide Brocton students with activities that were cut by a contingency budget adopted by the board after the district's 2010-11 budget was defeated in May.

"We are prepared to reinstate these two programs with donations of $752 for the pep band and $1,128 for the student council that the Booster Club successfully raised," Roberts said as she stepped forward with the checks in her hand to present them to the board.

Superintendent John Hertlein stopped her, saying, "We truly appreciate what the Booster Club is doing, but we ask you to hold on to the checks until the board decides what to do with the positions that will cover these programs."

David Hazelton, board member, reminded the Booster Club that the district attorney has indicated through a letter sent to the group that the board cannot accept funds for a specific purpose.

"The donations must be accepted in a legal manner," he said.

Hertlein said he would be getting with the Booster Club representatives to clarify this. The Booster Club has already raised money for the Brocton Bulldogs varsity and junior varsity football team.
