31st Annual End Of Summer Festival To Take?Place Sunday At Bergman Park

September 2, 2010
The Post-Journal

The 31st annual Jamestown Labor Day Festival will be held from noon to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Bergman Park, with fireworks provided by Zambelli Fireworks Internationale.

The show will begin when the festival's final band, the Porcelain Bus Drivers, finishes its performance around 8:30 p.m. Festival organizers say the 2010 version will supersede the memorable displays of recent years and easily represents the largest fireworks show in Western New York and northwestern Pennsylvania.

Billing itself as the "First Family of Fireworks," Zambelli is one of the oldest and largest American fireworks companies. Zambelli pyrotechnics have been televised around the world, on numerous broadcast and cable networks, including MSNBC, the Odyssey Network, the Discovery Channel, The Learning Channel and the British Broadcasting Company. Over the years, the company has been involved in hundreds of thousands of shows, including the city of Pittsburgh's 250th birthday celebration in October 2008, the homecoming celebration for Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps in Baltimore, Md. and the Thunder Over Louisville event in Kentucky.

The festival will also include an arts and crafts festival that begins at 11 a.m. with more than 20 vendors throughout Western New York and Pennsylvania. All vendors are required to sell hand-made items. Some of the items that will be featured this year include candles, jewelry, crocheted items, art work, pottery and doll clothes.

The Jamestown Labor Day Festival is a community celebration designed to honor the labor force in the greater Jamestown area. All money raised is used to directly pay for festival activities and support the host of non-profit community service agencies who participate.

The Chautauqua Striders will hold the annual Dan Feature Memorial 5K Run/Walk at 9:30 a.m. with registration starting at 8 a.m.

The Jamestown Area Central Labor Council AFL-CIO will present a member of the area workforce the George Ritzer Labor Award at 4 p.m. on the main stage.

Sponsors of the Labor Day Festival include the City of Jamestown, The Post-Journal, Time Warner Cable, Media One Group, H Jack's Plumbing, Pepsi of Jamestown, IBEW Local 106 and Jamestown Area Central Labor Council AFL-CIO.
