Richard ''Dick'' and Vesta "Betsy'' Reffner of Mayville, N.Y., celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Aug. 29, 2010, with an open house at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mayville, N.Y. The celebration was hosted by their children: Deborah and David Freay of Mayville, N.Y., Richard and Vickey Reffner of Perry, N.Y., Karen and Scott Gibson of Westfield, N.Y., and Nathaniel and Melanie Reffner of Mayville, N.Y. They also have 17 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Out-of-state guests attended from Ohio, Oregon, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Florida.
Reffner and the former Vesta Myers were married Aug. 28, 1950, in St. Leo's Catholic Church, Altoona, Pa. The Rev. Fleming, assistant pastor of St. Leo's Catholic Church, performed the ceremony.
Reffner is a former remedial reading specialist and elementary principal at Mayville Central School. He is a member of the Mayville United Methodist Church, where he serves on the financial committee of the church, the Peacock Lodge F&AM and the Mayville Lions Club. Mrs. Reffner is a former examiner for the food stamp department of Chautauqua County. She is a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mayville, where she serves as a eucharistic minister and member of the respite ministry.
