RANDOLPH - The Randolph Area Skate Park will be holding a Chinese auction Saturday to help raise money for the cause.
The auction will begin at 4 p.m. and will coincide with the Cruise-in at Peaches and Cream and the team night at Weedon Park, said Julie Cali, mother of the two boys who started the initiative.
Her 13-year-old son, Kyle Ecker, and her 12-year-old step-son Austin Shaffer began the process, she said.
"They wrote a petition and started collecting signatures for the plan," she said.
The process has progressed rapidly, having started at the beginning of August, she said. The plan has already gained approval by the Randolph Area Community Development Corporation, and has been placed in the comprehensive plan for the area, she said.
"They went around to houses and businesses," she said. "They had approval before we even knew about it pretty much. And that was amazing."
The initiative will be discussed at a board meeting on Monday, Sept. 20, where the prospective location will be chosen.
"We are going to petition the town for the tennis courts at Weedon Field," she said. "It is time for the tennis courts to be redone, and the town doesn't want to pay for it on account they have tennis courts up at the school that are really nice and the school up-keeps."
If the tennis courts are not an option, there are others, she said.
Local support has also been high, she said.
"We just did a can drive, and you would be surprised how many people brought us cans," she said.
Many of the items in the auction have been donated by local companies. Items include a shirt, hat and coffee cups that were donated by Harley-Davidson, a basket donated by The Basket Company, a 125 piece tool set and a gift certificate to Hollyloft to name a few.
Alex Plaskett, another young neighbor, has also helped the cause.
"He has put forth quite an effort into helping us also," she said.
