CATTARAUGUS - The Cattaraugus Area Picnic Committee hopes everyone will set aside some time in mid-August to enjoy this year's event. According to chairperson Heidi Nash, they've all been working hard to broaden the picnic's appeal.
"We've kept the traditional activities like volleyball and horseshoes that people love to do and watch," she said. "And we've thrown in a few new things just to get more people involved."
Today and Thursday: Horseshoes from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Sign up to play at the Firemen's Club (257-9299).
Wednesday, and Friday: Volleyball, starting at 6:00 p.m. Call 257-9285 for information.
Friday: "Free Banana Split Night" by Steve Forster. Also Softball for the "Over-35-Crowd," starting at 6:00 p.m. Sign up at the Firemen's Club (257-9299).
Saturday:
All Day Free Ice Cream Social provided by the Trading Post.
Noon Mercy Flight demonstration.
Noon Bed Race on lower South Street.
12:30 p.m. Kids' Games.
1 p.m. Bingo.
1 p.m. Water Battle.

3:15 p.m. Tricycle Race.
3:30 p.m. Volleyball Finals.

All picnic events will take place at the Firemen's Grounds, corner of South Street and Memorial Drive, or in its immediate proximity. Food will be prepared and sold by the Cattaraugus Firemen, the Firemen's Women's Unit, ABATE, and the Trading Post.
