Police Continue Search For Kidnapper

August 5, 2010

Police continued their search on Wednesday for a suspect in the kidnapping and sexual assault of a woman the day before in the Allegheny National Forest.

Police released a sketch of the man they believe to be responsible to the media early Wednesday morning.

Citing the ongoing nature of the investigation, Warren-based state police said Wednesday they did not have any new information to release.

Kathy Mohney, Allegheny National Forest spokesperson, said the U.S. Forest Service is cooperating with state police and that she did not know of any updates.

Allegheny National Forest officials held meetings with Forest Service employees in the morning, Mohney said, because the investigation centers around an area within the national forest.

"We want them to be aware and on the lookout," Mohney said. "We went over what transpired."

According to a news release from state police issued on Tuesday, investigators are looking for a white male between the ages of 30 and 40. He has short hair and is possibly balding. The suspect stands at 5'9" and has a thin build.

Troopers believe he is driving an early model black Chevrolet or GMC truck with a possible red pinstripe and out-of-state license plate.

At 3 p.m. Tuesday, police said the suspect approached a couple eating lunch at the Kinzua Point Information Center on Route 59. At gunpoint, the suspect forced both victims to the ground before tying the male with rope and duct tape.

The man then forced the woman into his vehicle and fled the area. According to police, the man drove to the Red Bridge area in McKean County, where he assaulted and released the woman.

After the male victim freed himself, police said he alerted people in the, area who then contacted police. State police patrol units found the female victim during their search.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the state police at 728-3600. City of Warren police, Forest Service personnel and Franklin-based state police's aviation unit assisted.
