Helen Mae Glatz Vandermeulen

Helen Mae Glatz Vandermeulen, formerly of Jamestown, died May 27, 2010, in Dunedin, Fla.

She was born May 3, 1920, the eldest child of Albert W. and Pauline (Johnson) Glatz.

Helen graduated from Jamestown High School in 1938 and Fredonia State College. She taught for several years at Celoron Jr. High School and later spent many years as a social worker for Tomkins & Broome counties, retiring in 1979. After retirement, she moved to Clearwater, Fla., and worked for a time as an accredited home health care aide. She traveled summers to New York to visit family and attended Elderhostels throughout the United States.

Survivors include a daughter, Carol L. Coleman of Fairport, N.Y.; a brother, C. Wm (Betty) Glatz and a sister-in-law, Shirley C. Glatz of Jamestown; four grandchildren: Angela Dana of Clearwater, Fla., Sara Coleman of Boston, Mass., Edward Coleman of Austin, Texas, and Sara Coleman of Austin, Texas.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, William A. Vandermeulen; brother, John A. Glatz and sister and brother-in-law, Hugh and Emily Creveling.

A memorial service open to family and friends will be held on July 31 at 10 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 851 Forest Ave., Jamestown, N.Y.
