Barbara J. Littell, 83, formerly of 842 N. Main St., and 28 Euclid Ave., in Jamestown, died with her three daughters by her side, Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at the Lutheran Home & Rehabilitation Center, following a courageous battle with cancer.
She was the widow of Harold E. Littell, whom she married Dec. 9, 1975, and who died Oct.1, 1976.
A Jamestown resident since 1984, she was born Nov. 22, 1926 in New Brighton, Pa., the daughter of the late John Alvin "Jack" and Alice Kenah Shelar, and graduated from the Beaver Falls school system.
She had been employed by the A & P Supermarket and K Mart Foods in Beaver Falls and locally by The Resource Center, as a community living specialist.
Barbara was a member of Chippewa United Methodist Church in Beaver Falls. In Jamestown, she was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she belonged to the Esther Circle and was a Stephen Minister. She also belonged to the Mozart Club.
Surviving are three daughters: Carol H. (Robert) Reneau of Santa Teresa, N.M., Lori H. Price of Erie, Pa., and Janice L. (Daniel) Quinn of Portsmouth, Va.; seven grandchildren: Meghann (Austin) Martin of Seattle, Wash., Michael McDonald of Seattle, Wash., Jennifer (James) Vogrin and Courtney (Brian) Bush of Medina, Ohio, Carley Price of Cincinnati, Ohio, Brian (Claudia) Quinn of San Antonio, Texas, and Robin (Scott) Krahling of Las Cruces, N.M.; eight great-grandchildren: Tyler, Jacob and Beckett Vogrin, Emma and Charles Bush, Anissa and Aidan Quinn, and Kaitlin Krahling; a sister, Joan Stubler of Laguna Niguel, Calif.; and two brothers: Robert Shelar of S. Daytona Beach, Fla., and Edwin Shelar of Azle, Texas; and her longtime special friend, James N. Carlson Sr. of Jamestown.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Charles William "Bill" Shelar, who died in 1946, while serving during World War II, and an infant brother, Jack Shelar.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in Bellinger Chapel of First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Thomas A. Sweet will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Sylvania Hills Memorial Park Cemetery in Rochester, Pa.
The family will receive friends in fellowship hall of the church following the service Monday.
