Starflight-Randolph Ambulance Collide

June 22, 2010
Post-Journal

RANDOLPH - Starflight and the Randolph ambulance, both on the emergency call at Underwood Corners in the Town of Coldspring, collided cracking and damaging one of the five rotors about 1:15 Monday afternoon. Larry Putnam, Command Pilot for Starflight, said the ambulance clipped the (circled) rotor blade end disabling the helicopter. It was thought the ambulance drove under the rotor area of the machine. Putnam explained the five rotors are so finely balanced that any problem would ground the machine. Mechanics were called to replace the blade on the spot, estimating the helicopter, would be out of service and in the middle of the intersection for at four or five hours. The New York State Police investigated the collision.
