HAMMETT- Race time arrived with temperatures in the upper 70s for the invasion of the ASCS Patriot Sprints to Eriez Speedway on Sunday.
Connecticut's Bubba Broderick came away from his 8 -hour tow with the win. Ben Burgess Jr won his third feature of the season while Mike Knight, Wade Slaney, and Jamie Hebner got their second wins of the season. The wildest finish of the season was the Street Stock finale with Chris Withers coming away with the win in a three abreast photo-finish. And Scott Gurdak make his first visit to Victory Lane.
Broderick jumped out to the early lead in the ASCS Patriot Sprint race with Kyle Moffit second. Heat winner Judi Bates spun in turn four at lap six for the first caution of the event. At that point local driver Scott Bonnell was third, but Jared Zimbardi got by for third on the first lap under gree and Zimbardi was second at the end of eight.
At halfway, Broderick had a substantial lead over Zimbardi and was in lapped traffic. Bryan Howland got third from Moffit at lap 17, but caution was again over the speedway with six laps to go for a two-car tangle on the main straight, evaporating Broderick's huge lead.
For the restart the lapped car was the only thing between Zimbardi and the leader. Running the extreme high line, Broderick had the field covered over the remaining distance with Zimbardi settling for second with Bryan Howland, Tim Kelly, and pole sitter Kyle Moffit filling out the top five.
Bump Hedman and Randy Lobb were on the front row for the start of the Jay's Auto Wrecking Super Late Model feature which had 23 starters. Hedman got the early lead with opening-night winner Knight coming by on the high side to lead at the end of two laps. Dave Hess Jr, fresh off a win at Stateline Speedway the night before, was second at lap three and pressuring Knight for several laps and at lap six was alongside the leader as they entered turn one. Unable to complete the pass at that time, Hess tried both high and low, but caution interrupted when Doug Eck slammed the wall at the flagstand on lap 10.
After the cleanup Knight was able to distance himself from the rest of the field until caution again bunched the field on lap 18 when Wendell Pinckney slowed to a stop on the back straight. Over the final laps Knight steadily pulled away from Hess with Chris Hackett winding up third, week-two winner Scott Johnson fourth and Randi Lobb fifth.
Twenty-two Jay's Auto Wrecking E-Mods started their feature with Joel Watson, winner of Stateline's Quincy Turner Memorial, off to a big lead over the first three laps until Jason Illig's spin in turn four slowed the field. By lap five, after two yellow periods, Scott Gurdak was battling Watson for the front spot. At lap nine, Gurdak was leading, but Watson would not give up on the low side. It took Gurdak three laps to fully establish himself as the leader
After one final caution, Gurdak led the remaining laps while Watson tried valiantly at every turn to gain the advantage. Following Gurdak and Watson to the line were Hess Jr, Mike Knight, and Justin Carlson in the top five.
Wade Slaney led the Boardwalk Bar and Grill Limited Late Model feature from the drop of the green flag and had a straight-a-way lead over Bob Vogt Jr when the first yellow flag slowed the action at lap five. By lap six last week's winner, Steve Kania, was challenging for second and had the spot a lap later. At halfway, Slaney had a lengthy lead again, but caution again erased his lead at lap 11 for a spin.
Slaney won the event with a comfortable lead over Kania. Ryan Scott was third with Bob Vogt fourth and Mike Lozowski fifth.
John Boardman grabbed the early lead in the Hunter Trucking Super Sportsman feature, but was supplanted at the front on lap two by Ben Burgess Jr, looking for his third win of the season. Caution flew at halfway when Eric Ester spun in turn four and was the only thing slowing Burgess's romp to the winner's circle. Boardman was second, half a straight back, followed by Joe Buccola, Pete Volpe, and Wade Watson.
John Coughlin and Gary Fisher led the 22 Mill Run Collision Street Stocks to the green with Coughlin setting the early pace. By the end of two laps, Greg Fenno was leading the way with Tommy Fox coming to second a lap later. Using the high side Fox was challenging for the lead at halfway and was ahead by a fender at lap 10. Cautions at lap 11 and 12 set up the final run to the checkers.
Fenno came back on strong along with Withers. At the white flag the leaders were three abreast with Withers gaining the lead on the back straight. The top three came across the line three wide with Withers winning by a nose over Fenno, who was less than a foot ahead of Fox. Joe Rohrer was fourth with Gary Fisher fifth.
Richie Langer led the start of the Summit Auto Auction Challenger feature, but was slowed at the end of lap one for a wreck in turn three. Brad Cole then led a lap before Jamie Hebner took over. Hebner then led the remaining distance to score his second win of the season with Josh Hebner, last week's winner, second, Langer third, jack Hall fourth, and Mike brown fifth.
